Dental Implants
Despite the improvement and awareness in dental care, millions of Americans suffer the loss of teeth due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, and or injury. For many years now, the only treatment options available have been bridges and dentures. But, today, dental implants are available. Dental implants procedure are a replacement for tooth roots. Tooth implants provide a strong foundation for permanent fixed or removable replacement teeth that are made to match one’s natural teeth.
The success rate of artificial teeth vary depending on the location the implant is placed, but in general dental implants have been shown to have a success rate of 98%. When properly cared for, they will often last a lifetime.
At First Point Dental, we will help in finding the right solution for your oral health. If you are eligible for a dental implant, our team of dental specialists will work diligently to bring back your beautiful and confident smile. In the procedure, the dentist will place a prosthetic or implant to replace the missing tooth or teeth. The empty gap in the mouth can lead to jawbone loss, gum disease, and shifting teeth in the future. A dental implant is a great investment, plus a permanent solution for the missing tooth or teeth. Essentially, an implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Types of Dental Implants
- Endosteal (in the bone): The most common dental implant process conducted by dentists in America. In this dental process, the dentist will place titanium implants in the jawbone. Shaped like small screws, the implant will project through the gum to hold the new replacement tooth. Endosteal implants are a great alternative for people dissatisfied with bridges or removable dentures.
- Subperiosteal (on the bone): the dentist recommends the procedure to individuals with insufficient healthy jawbone to support a dental implant. The dentist near you would place a framework implant on or above the jawbone, but under the gums. The implant would then hold the replacement tooth or denture.
What is the Dental Implants Procedure?
Our team at First Point Dental will give you a comfortable experience. Our team will help you understand the dental procedure at each stage. We will walk you through the 3 stages of the dental implants procedure:
Consultation and Treatment Planning
After booking an appointment at our dental clinic, the First Point staff will collect diagnostic radiographs and then evaluate your mouth to check if you’re eligible for dental implants. After that, a specialized dental treatment plan would be prepared and explained in full detail.
Implant Placement
Contrary to what you might hear, dental implants are a minor and simple procedure. Plus, the dentist will consult with you in case you need local anesthesia or other sedation to ensure a comfortable experience. In the procedure, one or multiple titanium fixtures will be fixed to the jawbone and then is allowed time to heal before the implant can be used.
Recovery Time
The healing and recovery time can stretch anywhere from 3-6 months. It is dependent on how well you maintain your oral health in addition to how your body responds to the treatment. One needs to give time for the proper integration of the implant with the jawbone. Also, one needs to consult the dentist 2-3 times to check the progress and postoperative checks. We will then schedule an appointment to place a “healing abutment” which will help to properly form the gums to the contour of an abutment and/or tooth. After the healing abutment has healed for 2 weeks, you are ready to take an impression for the final restoration.
Dental Implants Cost
A full mouth dental implants procedure / surgery cost would be in the region of $34,000. While a single dental implant could cost you around $1500-2000, excluding procedure expenses. To know more about the procedure’s cost, consult our dental clinic near you.
